How to Reach Rome's Termini Station by Car: All Useful Information
Almost everyone has passed through Rome's Termini Station at least once in their life. After all, in addition to being a key junction in the capital, it is also one of the largest and busiest in Europe. It is located in the heart of the city and, since its opening in 1867, it has undergone numerous transformations and expansions, becoming a modern hub that accommodates trains and offers a wide range of services, such as shops, restaurants, offices, and shopping centers. But what do you need to do to get there by car from the four cardinal points of the city? Let's find out together.
From Settebagni to Rome Termini
Starting from the Settebagni area, which is in the northern part of the city, it takes about 40 minutes to reach Rome's Termini Station, traffic permitting. The fastest route is via the SS4, which is Salaria Road, and it should be traveled for about 15 km until you reach the Salaria ring road.
After reaching the ring road, continue by taking Nomentana Street until you reach Via XX Settembre. Then turn left towards Piazza della Repubblica, traveling along the Terme di Diocleziano street. Finally, turn left towards Piazza dei Cinquecento, which is located right in front of Termini Station.
From Rome East to Termini Station
Taking the Roma Est Shopping Center as a starting point, to get to Termini Station, you should drive on Collatina Road for about 15 km until you reach the turnoff for Prenestina Road. Continue down that same road to reach the Porta Maggiore roundabout, located in the Esquilino neighborhood.
Once you get here, continue straight on via di Porta Maggiore, further on via Principe Eugenio, via Napoleone III, and finally on via Farini. From here, turn right on via Cavour, which leads directly to Termini Station.
From Ciampino to Termini
The shortest route from Ciampino to Termini is via Appia, from where you continue along Appia Nuova Road (SS7) until you reach the roundabout at Piazza dei Re di Roma, where you must take via Aosta.
From this point, continue straight to reach the Esquilino district and, upon reaching Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, turn right and then left onto via Napoleone III, which leads directly to via Cavour. Finally, turn right onto via Cavour, which takes you directly to Termini Station.
From Malagrotta to Termini Station
Those leaving from Malagrotta should take the SS1 (Aurelia Road) and follow the signs for via Gregorio VII. Then continue to the left at the fork for via Aurelia Antica, proceeding until entering the Aurelio district. Once there, travel the Vatican boulevards until you reach the fork with via Cola di Rienzo, then head towards Piazza del Popolo.
From Piazza del Popolo, it's important to continue to Villa Borghese and turn right onto via del Muro Torto. Then maintain the direction until you reach Piazza della Repubblica, continuing along via delle Terme di Diocleziano. At this point, turn left onto largo Villa Peretti and continue until Piazza dei Cinquecento.
Where to Park and Other Useful Information
It is very important to know that Termini Station is located within a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL), which regulates vehicle access to the center of Rome. The ZTL in the Historic Center is active from Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM and on Saturdays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, while it is generally suspended on holidays. Additionally, some ZTLs also affect the streets and roads that need to be traveled to get there. Before getting into a car, be sure to check relevant websites to avoid fines.
It is crucial to be very careful not to enter the ZTL during activation hours unless you have a specific permit. Alternatively, it is advisable to use public transport or taxi services. This is especially important since, while the routes we've described are the shortest, traffic in Rome, particularly in certain areas and times, can be very intense.
